Ground Breaking For Atascadero

Home Build held December 8th

The Atascadero ground breaking for the 4 homes to be built on Traffic Way was held Saturday, December 8th. Approximately 140 guests came to welcome the partner families and take the opportunity to meet with fellow HFH volunteers.

Pastor Carl Billings from Hope Lutheran Church and Rev. K. Cherie Jones from the Methodist Church of Atascadero performed the invocation and blessing. After a short ceremony and presentation of shovels to the families, refreshments were served.

The new families are

  • Sean and Lisa Segler and their two children
  • Cesar and Viviana Fregoso and their two children
  • Jennifer Kim and her daughter
  • Jorge and Rosa Lopez and their four children

The partner familes will work alongside volunteers to build their homes.

This project is quickly coming together and we are glad to celebrate the start of this long awaited project.

"We have come a long way in a relatively short time," according to Building Committee Chairman, Tommy Todd. Constructing four houses as a single project is a first for our organization. The City of Atascadero is currently reveiwing building plans. We hope to have our building permit by January of 2008.

"The giving spirit of everyone involved in this project has been truly amazing," says Penny Rappa, Executive Director. Those involved to date are the City of Atascadero and Housing Trust Fund who helped provide the land and support; The City of San Luis Obispo for some of the construction funding: the design and engineering professionals for their services; numerous churches who added funding and volunteers; the many individual donors who maded this project possible and hundreds of volunteer house donated to this effort.

Interviews for a Construction Supervisor will take place in the next few weeks. If you are a General Contractor with a background in construction management and are interested in a 30 hour week job, please contact our office at 782-0687.
