For the last 9 years I have been privileged to lead one of the most fantastic non-profits I have ever worked for. However, it is now time for me to look to my own heart and retire from my work of helping others that I have dedicated myself to for 35 years. I have been blessed to work for many non-profits, but my work with Habitat for Humanity for SLO County has been the best professional and personal opportunity and experience I have had. It has been a true privilege to work with and serve so many members of our community – from the families who buy their first homes to the senior women who smile and make the best cookies for us as we work to repair their homes.
I will be here, working for you all, until June 30, 2019. My plans for my retirement are not firm, but I know that I am looking for a new life path filled with light and doing the things I love to do, including spending time with my daughter, granddaughter, grandson, and son-in-law, and all the wonderful friends I have made since I moved to SLO 11 years ago. It is, simply put, time for me to break out into a new adventure in my life and fully embrace what I love.
As with all things, there is always a time for change. Change is not bad. It is an opportunity – an opportunity for new insights, new directions, new challenges (and risks) and growth. I have always been someone who has embraced change in my life and, while it has been bumpy at times (that’s just life), it has inevitably led to growth, happiness, and new possibilities. I see new possibilities and opportunities just waiting to be found and grown by the person who replaces me and the wonderful group of people who can help that happen – our Board of Directors, our many committees, our volunteers, and our staff. Habitat is always a place where good things happen!
Habitat’s Executive Committee is serving as the selection committee and will be launching the search process for the next Chief Executive Officer in October. Information on applying for the position will be placed on SLOJobs, Indeed.com, and the website for Habitat California. Perhaps one of you reading this will be the right person to be the next CEO of Habitat for Humanity for SLO County!
Thanks to you all for your support and commitment to Habitat during my time here! You have made my time as CEO wonderful, fruitful, and amazingly beautiful! I cannot think of a better organization or community to serve.
